This is very exciting. I mainly enjoy summer for the warm weather. I keep telling myself, I swear I will live in a state where it is warm year round someday. During the summer I am going to continue working about everyday. I also hope to get a lot of holes of golf in on top of this. Summer just seems to be way too short, so I am going to take advantage of everyday that I get. Well, good luck to everyone who's taking summer classes, we'll see you next semester.

Forgetfulness

Am I the only one who forgets things constantly? It just seems like little things that I should remember, I always seem to forget. Like how long to cook that TV dinner that I eat about every other day, or what time I have to be to work the next day. Another thing I am bad at remembering is names. At the bank I am expected to use the customer's name every time I do a transaction. This is not easy considering I usually help over a fifty customers a day. It seems like I am always waiting until the last minute to do everything. I don't do this on purpose, it just seems to happen this way. I then feel pressured and nervous while I am trying to complete the task. This makes me wonder, do I work better when I procrastinate. I sometimes think so. The reason I feel this way is because when I procrastinate I have higher concentration, and I seem to focus more. When I have a lot of time to do something, my concentration seems to be at a lower rate. It just seems like it causes some people to act in ways they wouldn't normally act. Throughout high school I was involved in a lot of competative sports, and I tried not to let these sports affect the way I treated people. For others it didn't seem like they felt the same way. It seemed like they felt since they were only being competative, they could act anyway they felt. I even had a few of my close friends treat me bad because of competition. For some people it seems like their happiness comes from material things. Although material things are nice to have, I don't thing they could possibly bring true happiness. I mean look at some of the famous milionares in the world that are absolutly miserable. For me true happiness comes from more meaningful things. Like my family and friends. I am not saying that all police officers are bad, but when bad incidences happen with a few officers, it affects how they all look. The incident that comes to my mind when I think about a bad incident is the situation with the man in New Orleans. He was a retired school teacher, and came back to New Orleans to check on his house after the hurricane. While walking down the street he was brutaly beaten by a few police officers. They said he was drunk, but he hadn't drank in 25 years. This was caught on tape, and the officers are being punished. Some police officers just use their power to thier advantage. These officers need to be recognized, and something needs to be done about it.

Counterfeiting

There has been a lot of fake $100 bills going around Grand Island lately, which has caused many businesses to deny the use of them. I really don't think that this is a good way to stop them. The only way to really stop them is by doing exactly what the government is doing, adding different security features to make them harder to counterfeit. If businesses don't want to get stuck with them, then they need to train their employees how to recognize them, not just plain deny them. Some people only carry cash in large amounts, and they don't want to have to only carry $20's. This is just an inconvienince for them. Hopefully, once we get the $100 bills out of circulation businesses will start accepting them again.

Conflict

I think conflict in relationships can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Most relationships are going to have some kind of conflict. Some might be acted out on, while others might just hold in how they feel. If two people have a conflict, and they decide to work it out in order to keep their relationship, this is a good conflict becuase it makes the relationship stronger. It's the conflicts that are taken out of hand and turn into something more than it is that are bad conflicts. I think the best way to handle any conflict is to just try and talk to the other person and tell them how you are feeling. If they arn't able to talk to you about it then there isn't a lot you can do until they are.

Immigration

I just read an article on cnn.com entitles Hundreds of thousands march for immigrant rights. Yesterday, thousands of immigrants didn't go to work and school to show what the US would be like without them. In all reality America was made by immigrants, so why should we stop immigrants from coming now? They are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. Almost $4 a gallon! So what does this mean for America? America has a very high dependency on gas, one of the highest in the nations. This means we have to rely on other countries for oil. This is kind of scary considering we are currently in a war with a country that has one of the highest sources of oil in the world. What can we do to help stop the high prices? I don't think there is a lot that we can do, oil prices are out of our control. We can try to use less gas though. We can do this by driving more fuel efficient cars or car pooling. For most of us this man not be a possibility, but something needs to be done to control these high prices.

Phil Wins Masters

I don't know how many of you are into golf, but just recently Phil Mickelson won his second masters. Now most people were probably hoping for Tiger to make an amazing comeback, and this also included myself. Phil's win brought him to the top of the money list for the year, and also boosted him to be ranked second in the world behind Tiger. So, does this mean we have a new golf idol to root for every week? I really don't think so. Although, Phil is a great golfer, I think Tiger is still that one to beat. They also are saying that they are most likely to affect college aged people. Honestly, this kind of freaks me out. I don't know a whole lot about mumps, but the name alone tells me I don't want anything to do with them. With how busy my life is right now, all I would need is to get infected with mumps and have to take off of work and school. I guess all I can do is just wash my hands a few extra times a day, and hope I don't come across the wrong person. Graduating from high school and going to college has truely shown me who my real friends are. There are a lot of people that I thought were my good friends in high school, and now that we have gone our separate ways we don't even talk. On the other hand, there are others that I talk to more than I did in high school. These are the relationships that I can really value. I'm sure going to college and meeting new people will probably turn out the same way. I guess thats just how it goes, some people move on and go their separate ways, while others stick around or keep in touch. Without it, it would be very hard to do a lot of things you do everyday. I mean just think about it, when you get in your car every morning, you are trusting that the other drivers around you are going to drive safely. Without trust, people would have to stay in their houses like hermets. Interpersonal trust is something that can be a good thing or a bad thing. You are very lucky if you can get close to a person, and you can truely trust them. The bad part of this is that if you let the wrong person in, they might take advantage of you and abuse your trust. I think honesty is one of the most important thing in a person's life. I am faced with honesty every day of my life, and sometimes it is really hard not to lie. Honesty says a lot about the person that you really are. I have known people that I consider pathological liers. These people have lied so much and so often, that you always do it. This can get very frustrating, and it makes me not want to be around them as much. There are some instances where lieing might be an ok thing. If your great grandma asked you if you like her new dress, of course you are going to tell her you love it because you don't want to hurt her feelings. Or maybe you have a cool great grandma and you really do like her dress, in this case you have just saved yourself a lie. A lot of the time all it takes to be honest is to just think about what you are saying before you say it. This may save you a lot of friendships and a lot of hardships. Go to this Honesty Link for more about honesty.

Hi, my name is Daniel and I am from Grand Island, NE. Most of my time is spent either at school or work. I am in my first semester at CCC and I hope to get a two year degree in Business Technology and then transfer to UNK to go into Industrial Distribution. During the week I work at Tier One Bank, and I also work at Nelson's Furniture on the weekends. When I am not working or a school, I spend most of my time with my wife, Jenni. During the summer I love to golf. If it's too cold for that I will usually end up playing Tiger Woods PGA tour on my PS2.
